Runcorn-Widnes Bridges

Four bridges connect or have connected Runcorn and Widnes:-
1866 Runcorn Railway Bridge was designed by William Baker to provide a crossing over the Mersey between Aston and Ditton for the London and North Western Railway. Contractors Brassey and Ogilvie; Cochrane and Co supplied the girders.
1905 Widnes and Runcorn Transporter Bridge. Now demolished.
1956-61 The Silver Jubilee Bridge. Structural engineers were Mott, Hay and Anderson; construction was by Dorman, Long and Co and Leonard Fairclough Ltd; the steel cable for the suspenders was supplied by Bridon International
2017 Mersey Gateway Bridge opened.
