West Highland Slipway Co

From Graces Guide

Yacht and ship repairers, marine engineers, and salvage contractors

1937 The West Highland Slipway Company Limited was incorporated as a private company, with capital of £5,000, to acquire the business of the Oban Slipway Co, and to carry on the business of ship and yacht builders and designers, repairers, and engineers.[1] The new business included representation of the Air Ministry at Oban and it was noted that there were already moorings for flying boats and sea planes.[2]

1947 The shipyard, on the island of Kerrera, off Oban, was requisitioned during the war and, when released, was sold to a new company, Oban Bay Shipyard Limited.[3] The West Highland Slipway Co went into voluntary liquidation thereafter.[4]
