1911 Residing at Amberley Court, near Stroud: William Davies (age 63 born Stonehouse), Retired Woollen Cloth Manufacturer. With his wife Mary Ann.[1]

1923 December. Died. 'We regret to record the death of Mr William Davies J.P., which occurred his residence, Amberley Court, near Stroud, following an illness extending over a period of some months. The deceased gentleman, who was 76 years of age, was educated St. John's College. Cambridge, and subsequently commenced a long and active association with the old-established firm of Messrs. Robert S. Davies and Sons, who for over a century successfully carried on business as woollen cloth manufacturers at Upper Mills and Lower Mills, Stonehouse. The firm of which Mr. Davies eventually became the head, enjoyed for many years a high reputation and an extensive clientele, being at one time one of the many noted concerns in the manufacture of West of England cloth. A little over ten years ago, however, the mills owing to the process of concentration and other causes closed down, but a large portion of the premises has since been re-opened for the carrying on of other forms of industry...'[2]
