WILLIAM LLOYD BAYLEY held the important position of general manager of the main bolt and nut works of Messrs. Guest, Keen, and Nettlefolds, with control of about 3,000 employees. He was born in 1883 and served his apprenticeship from 1900 to 1905 with the Coalbrookdale Company, Ltd., afterwards becoming chief draughtsman and subsequently assistant engineering manager.
After brief appointments as assistant to the managing director of Messrs. Jessops, Ltd., steel manufacturers, and as superintendent in charge of production in the works of the Lilleshall Company, he began, in 1914, his long association with Messrs. Guest, Keen and Nettlefolds.
His first appointment was that of works engineer to Messrs. F. W. Cotterill, Ltd. (afterwards merged with the larger firm) at the Atlas Works, Darlaston; later he was promoted to be works manager, and more recently he became general manager. He held the latter position until his death, which occurred on 12th September 1943.
He had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1919.
