1894 John Haig and Company Limited, Distillery Stores, Markinch, was incorporated, with capital of £200,000, to acquire the business of that name, wine and spirit merchants.[1]
1903 The company bought the Glen Cawdor Distillery for an estimated price between £6,000 and £7,000[2]and continued to operate it until 1927.[3]
1914 Equipped with modern appliances at Markinch and Glen Cawdor Distillery, Nairn. Directors: John Haig (Chairman), Oliver Haig, Cecil de Proe, Thomas Brown, Sir Douglas Haig, T. Wilkinson. General Manager: T. Wilkinson.
1980 Part of Distillers Co.
1988 Sold to Brent Walker
1990 Brent Walker sold Whyte and Mackay, including Claymore Whisky and Haig, to American Brands (later called Fortune Brands).[5]
