1885 Spencer and Co installed an engine at John Taylor's mill in Melksham[1]

1894 The company was registered on 23 August, to acquire a business of engineers. [2]

c.1900 New factory opened in Melksham

1914 Engineers and contractors. specialities: grain handling machinery, silos etc., coal and ash plants, ore conveyors etc. Employees 750. [3]

1930 Manufacturer of elevating and conveying plant for grain, coal, ore, cement and other materials, and mechanical handling plant and labour-saving appliances.

  • NB

A double-acting single cylinder vertical blower, by Spencer & Co is retained on a plinth at the east end of Millwall Outer Dock in the Isle of Dogs. This unit, possibly originally belt driven, is retained as a reminder of the grain silos which once lined this dock.
