JOHN SHAW, whose death occurred in London on 13th October 1949, at the age of seventy-three, had been a director since 1908 of Messrs. John Shaw and Sons (Salford), Ltd., hydraulic engineers, when the firm was incorporated, and had been identified with that firm for the whole of his professional career, including his apprenticeship from 1894 to 1898.

He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and at Heaton Moor and Buxton Colleges.

Mr. Shaw was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1909, and was transferred to Membership in 1940.
