Edmund Grove (1823-1911)
1823 Born in Clapham, Surrey, son of Thomas Clapham, a fishmonger
Served regular pupillage with Messrs Robinson of Pimlico and Messrs Caird of Greenock.
Successively assistant with Fox, Henderson and Co, E. O. Manby, G. H. Wild.
Became London representative for Cochrane and Co, Woodside Ironworks, Dudley.
1850 Elected as an Associate of the Inst of Civil Engineers
1851 A civil engineer, living with his parents in Clapham[1]
1857 of 11 Park St, Westminster
1858 An ironfounder, of Middlesbrough, when he married Martha Jane Sale in Rugby[2]
1861 Edmund Grove 38, member of Cochrane and Co, Ironfounder, lived in Stockton with Martha J Grove 25[3]
1871 Edmund Grove 48, iron founder and engineer, lived in Guisborough with Martha J Grove 35[4]
1901 Edmund Grove 78, retired ironfounder, lived in Shoreham with his sister in law, Mary Ann Sale 74, and nephew Walter M Grove 44[5]

EDMUND GROVE, born on the 15th February, 1823, died on the 11th February, 1911.
In the early days of railway development, he was engaged on the survey and construction of a number of lines, especially in the eastern counties.
Later, he joined in founding the firm of Cochrane, Grove and Co, of Cleveland. A brother of the late Sir George Grove, he was a keen musical student and critic.
Mr. Grove was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 3rd December, 1850, and was subsequently placed in the class of Associate Members. His name had thus been borne on the Roll over 60 years.
