1963 Obituary[1]
"WE regret to record the death on December 4, of MR. A. B. C. RANKIN, deputy chief engineer at Smiths Industrial Division, Hillington, and head of the Ultrasonic Department. Mr. Rankin, who was aged forty, was educated at Hamilton Academy and the Royal College of Science and Technology, Glasgow, and completed his metallurgical training with Colvilles Ltd., Motherwell. He joined Henry Hughes and Son (later Smiths) in 1945 as one of a small team working on ultrasonic flaw detection techniques, and made a substantial contribution to the growth of ultrasonic technology. Mr. Rankin was a member of several professional institutions and the author of many papers on ultrasonics."
