Amey plc, previously known as Amey Ltd and Amey Roadstone Construction

Its head office is in the Sherard Building in Oxford.

1921 Founded by William Amey as an Oxfordshire based quarry operator.

WWII The company grew during the Second World War with its involvement in the construction of Royal Air Force bases.

1959 The company was responsible for the supply of gravel for the construction of the M1 motorway, between London and Birmingham. In the same year it became a public company.

1963 First listed on the London Stock Exchange

1972 Acquired by Consolidated Gold Fields[1], amalgamated with Amalgamated Roadstone, to form Amey Roadstone.

1974 Acquired Stephen Toulson and Sons.

1989 Hanson purchased Consolidated Gold Fields including Amey Roadstone; Amey was separated from ARC.

1995 Amey was refloated on the London Stock Exchange, with a strategic decision to focus on support service delivery.
