1859 Crofthead Mill purchased for Messrs Alexander, mill-owners, Glasgow.[1]
1884 2000 HP vertical engine made by J. and E. Wood of Bolton. With a rope drum diameter of 28 ft and a high speed of 80 rpm, a special type of flywheel construction was required, patented by Mr Macbeth of R. F. and J. Alexander & Co[2]
1892 The company was registered on 3 August, to acquire the business of cotton thread manufacturers of the firm of the same name. [3]
1898 Acquired by the English Sewing Cotton Co.
1962 Factories Act. R. F. and J. Alexander and Co, Crofthead Works, Neilston.[4]
