Entries included 16x Panhards, 14x Mors, 12x Mercedes, 10x De Dietrich, 7x Serpollets, 6 CGVs, 4 Wolseleys and light cars by Renault, Darracq and Decauville. Speeds averaged 90 mph through roads crowded with spectators.
A total of 34 (?) persons died before the race was stopped. Among the dead was William Nixon the mechanic of Leslie Porter who was trapped under the car and burned to death; Marcel Renault one of the founders of the car company; Claude Lorraine Barrow and his mechanic Pierre Rodez.
