Became apprenticed with [[New Engine Co]] and in 1911 joined staff of [[McEwan, Pratt and Co]]. engaged on design work on internal combustion locomotives. Spent eight years with [[Rolls-Royce]] Ltd., becoming personal assistant to Sir [[Henry Royce]]. Lived in S. America prior to the 1939 war, as Engineer to [[Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway|B. A.
