EDMUND JOHN CHRISTIAN was a member of the committee of the North Western Branch of the Institution and also took an active part in the affairs of the Manchester Association of Engineers.
He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. John Hetherington and Sons, and after being employed in the drawing offices of various firms, he became associated in 1895 with the Linotype and Machinery Company of Altrincham. He initiated a number of ingenious devices for improving machinery methods during the several years he was connected with the firm.
Mr. Christian subsequently joined the staff of Messrs. Joseph Adamson and Company of Hyde, and later became a director of Messrs. Sutcliffe Brothers and Bryce, also of Hyde, now amalgamated with Newall's Insulation Company.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1922, and his death occurred on 27th January 1932, at the age of 63.
