He was born in Kidderminster in 1867 and received his technical education at Masons College and the Midland Institute, Birmingham, and later at the [[University of Liverpool]]. From 1884 to 1889 he served his apprenticeship in the works of [[James Watt and Co]], at Soho Foundry, Birmingham. After further experience as a draughtsman in the works of the [[BSA|Birmingham Small Arms and Metal Company]], he went to Liverpool, and joined the [[Allan Royal Mail Steam Ship Co]], and subsequently sailed as a marine engineer in that company's liners. He later became a marine engineer in [[Alfred Holt and Co|Messrs. Alfred Holt's]] steamships. From 1893 to 1895 he was employed as a draughtsman in the repair shops of the [[Allan Steam Ship Co]], and in 1896 he accepted the position of manager to [[Ransome and Marshall|Messrs. Ransome and Marshall]], mechanical engineers, of Liverpool. Four years later he began his long association with the [[Campbell Gas Engine Co]], which he joined as assistant manager. After twenty-seven years' service with this firm Mr. Marsden retired, and lived at New Barnet, Herts, where his death occurred on 18th June 1939. "WALTER MARSDEN was connected for the greater part of his career with the Campbell Gas Engine Company, Ltd., of Halifax, Yorks.
He was born in Kidderminster in 1867 and received his technical education at Masons College and the Midland Institute, Birmingham, and later at the University of Liverpool.
