1875 After the death of his brother, Morland, and the movement of another brothers, George Crosfield, to London, John became solely responsible for Joseph Crosfield and Sons.

1881 Became chairman of Brunner, Mond and Co, alkali manufacturers. Crosfields were their largest customer.
