This was the original Beta that was modified in August 1912 with a replacement envelope of 42,000 cubic fee and fitted with a 50-hp Clerget engine.

She was used to train Naval personnel in airship handling and continued in service throughout 1913.

On 1st January 1914 she was passed over to the Navy and was renamed as H. M. Airship No. 17.

She was decommissioned in May 1916.
