Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway
Opened in 1844 with locomotives supplied by the Great North of England Railway
- In 1844 it bought the Durham Junction Railway
- In 1845 it bought the Brandling Junction Railway
- 1846 Bought the Durham and Sunderland Railway,the Pontop and South Shields Railway and the Great North of England Railway
- On 3rd August 1846 it changed its name to the York and Newcastle Railway
