MOTOR-CYCLE TRIALS.[3]

Yesterday the Autocycle Union, which controls the sport of motor-cycling in this country, held their spring quarterly trials over a circular route of 124.5 miles. Uxbridge was the starting and finishing point, and the twenty-nine competitors were dispatched on their purvey at nine a.m. As usual, Muriel Hinds was the only lady rider, but her two-cylinder 5 h.p. Rex was one of the most powerful machines in the trials. The route taken from Uxbridge was by way of Beaconsfield, High Wycombe, Dashwood Hill, Wheatley, Islip, and Bletchington to Banbury. Here each competitor stopped for lunch, though they all halted at the feet of Dashwood Hill. Up this bill the time each competitor occupied in climbing its ascent was taken. Fortunately, the weather was fine, but the roads to Banbury were very heavy and greasy; in fact the valley in the neighbourhood of Islip was a series of miniature lakes, so little of the land could be sen on either side of the road.

From Banbury the return journey was through Bicester, Waddesdon, Aylesbury, Tring, Berkhamstead, Chesham, Amersham and Beaconsfield to Uxbridge.....

The following were the starters from Uxbridge:
