1952 Obituary [1]

"EDGAR CLARENCE WEST, who was born in 1890, was educated at the East London College, now Queen Mary's College, and gained his first practical experience with Eley Brothers, Ltd., London. After two years as junior draughtsman to Hutchings Patents, Ltd., he secured an appointment in 1909 as draughtsman and designer to the Lightfoot Refrigeration Company, Ltd., where he remained for eight years. He was then engaged as a designer-draughtsman and stress calculator in connection with an air-cooled aero-engine and for a period was in practice as a consultant. After renewing his association with the Lightfoot Refrigeration Co as engineer and representative he went into business on his own account in 1923 as a mechanical engineer and machine designer and was closely concerned with a variety of experimental machines. More recently his activities included those of a consulting engineer. Mr. West had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1940. He was also a Member and past chairman of the Junior Institution of Engineers which awarded him the Vickers Gold Medal with Prize and the Dunn Silver Medal for papers read before the members. His death occurred on 23rd April 1951 in his sixty-first year."
