Major Ernest Charles Hatcher (1891-1978)

1891 Born on the Isle of Dogs.

1917 Lieut R.N.V.R. Married Eleanor Florence Jenkins in Chiswick; his father, Robert, was an automobile engineer[1]

1918 Served in RAF.

1920 With Thomas Rooke patented "Improvements in reduction gear "; possibly this led to the formation of the H-R Reduction Gear Syndicate.

1922 Invented a new form of speed reduction/changing gear.

1927 Patent with J. Stone and Co on "Power-transmission gearing for the running axles of vehicles", the first of many patents with the company.

1939 Ernest C Hatcher, designing engineer - aircraft, lived in Ruislip with Eleanor F Hatcher (b 1896) and Joan Hatcher (b 1917)[2]

1942 Patent on "Improvements in or connected with electric gyroscopes" with Stone Platt Engineering Co (the later Canadian patent also included R. B. Pullin and Co).

1943 Patent on "Variable-Pitch Marine Propeller" with J. Stone and Co., Ltd.

1978 Died in Northwood
