Red and White United Transport

1929 The Red and White Services Company was formed by John Watts to bring together the various bus companies he had formed or acquired in Gloucestershire and South East Wales.

1937 Red and White United Transport Ltd. was incorporated as a public Transport Holding Company to consolidate the transport interests built up over 20 years by a group of 6 families:[1][2]

  • Red and White Services Ltd
  • Eclipse Saloon Services Ltd
  • Bassett-Enterprise Ltd
  • The Gower Vanguard Motors (1920) Ltd

1949 The passenger transport services were voluntarily sold to the British Transport Commission. The company continued in business, reinvesting some of the proceeds in a range of businesses.

1961 Name changed to United Transport Co; shares admitted to trading on the London Stock Exchange.

1971 United Transport was acquired by BET
