1920 Proposed merger of Walker's Tobacco Co, W. H. Newman and Co, Findlay and Co and Albert Baker and Co.[1] The merger failed to be completed.
1920 One firms concerned is Walker's Tobacco Co., Ltd., Liverpool, the managing director of which (Mr. Alfred Walker) is taking leading part in arrangements for pooling the resources of all the companies. Walker's Tobacco Company was founded the late Mr. W. B. Walker, J.P., and has been in existence nearly thirty years. The late Mr. Walker started the tobacco trade seventy years ago in Liverpool. In addition to the business carried on at its establishments in the port, the firm does a very considerable export and contract trade, and has extensive home connections. It has probably the most up-to-date model factory in the country, employing the latest types of machinery. The company has a very high standing the city and elsewhere. Mr. Alfred Walker at present in London attending to the details of the combine.[2]
