"WALTER HAROLD SCOTT, who was born in 1896, received his early training from 1911 to 1917 at the Redditch and Birmingham works of the Birmingham Small Arms Company, Ltd. After gaining experience as charge-hand to the Austin Motor Company, Ltd., and as toolroom and machine shop foreman to Messrs. Beardmore Motors, Ltd., of Birmingham, he joined the Westinghouse Brake and Saxby Signal Company, Ltd., at Chippenham, where for five years he carried out the duties of foreman of the machine shop and night superintendent.
In 1931 he began a connection with the Metal Box Company, Ltd., which lasted up to the time of his death, on 21st July 1949. He was first engaged as assistant to the firm's consulting engineer, to whom he was responsible for the installation of all plant at the new factory at Perrywood, Worcester, where he was later appointed press department manager. In October 1937 he was transferred to Neath, with responsibility for the layout and starting up of plant for the manufacture of cans of all types at the new works in that town. On the completion of this task he was appointed manager of the press and tool department, a position he retained to the end of his career. Mr. Scott was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1944."
