William Herbert Morton (1877-1947)
1877 Born at Leeds the son of John Trotter Morton, an Emery Wheel Manufacturer, and his wife Mary Jenkinson Thorpe
Technical education at Leeds University and Leeds School of Science and Technology
1890-97 Apprenticeship with Kitson and Co
1897-00 Employed by Kitson as a Leading Draughtsman, later becoming Assistant Works Manager with the same firm.
1900 he was appointed Chief Draughtsman in the Locomotive Department of the Midland Great Western Railway
1913 Patent on improvements in locomotive superheaters
Later Works Manager and Assistant Locomotive Engineer.
c.1922 Designer of locomotives which were built by Armstrong Whitworth
1915 Appointed Locomotive Superintendent of the Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland at the end of 1915, in succession to E. Cusack.
1924 He became Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer
1929 Chief Mechanical Engineer.
1932 Succeeded C. E. Riley as General Manager Great Southern Railways (Ireland).
