Studied at Cassel in Germany

1886 Practical experience on the construction of the Kilsyth and Bonnybridge Railway

1886-1890 Pupil with Formans and McCall; worked on the West Highland Railway and the Glasgow Central Railway. Attended Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College.

1890-1 Assistant to James Young and Co, contractors for the Bridgeton Cross Extension Railway and on the New Loch Katrine aqueduct.

1891 Civil engineer, living with his parents in Glasgow[1]
