ERNEST WEST, whose death in his seventy-seventh year occurred on 9th March 1944, was a refrigerating engineer throughout his professional career. He served his apprenticeship with Messrs. H. J. West and Company, and with Messrs. Pontifex and Sons, Ltd., and after holding temporary appointments as a junior in the works of Mr. John Musgrave, engineer, and Mr. Oswald Mordaunt, shipbuilder, he entered the firm of Messrs. H. J. The firm was then reconstituted as a limited liability company. In 1909 he resigned this position and with the late Mr. Herbert Beynon started the firm of Messrs. Ernest West and Beynon, Ltd., holding the position of chairman of this company until his retirement owing to ill-health thirty years later. Mr. West was elected a Member of the Institution in 1898.
