After period of teaching at New York University entered rubber Industry. Came to England, 192o, and introduced self-vulcanising tyre and tube repair material. This led to interest in chemical compounding of oil and other hydrocarbon products. Originated oil additives and in 193o produced the Redex Oil Additive, developing specialised motor testing and tuning equipment for use in conjunction with it.
