ALBERT CHORLEY ROGERSON, C.B.E., was born in Manchester on 13th June 1869, and was educated at St. Saviour's School, Chorlton-on-Medlock, until his fourteenth year, when he entered the works of Sharp, Stewart and Co., as a works apprentice.
With the exception of a short period at the works of Hans Renold and Co. and with Henry Simon and Co., almost the whole of his apprenticeship was served with the first-mentioned firm. He also attended evening classes at the Technical School.
In 1889 he entered the Horwich Works of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, as a fitter in the boiler-making department, and subsequently he was transferred to the drawing office, remaining there until 1904, when he was appointed Works Manager of Beyer, Peacock, and Co., Gorton Foundry, Manchester.
On the retirement of Mr. A. F. Halstead, in 1919, Mr. Rogerson was appointed General Manager.
During the War he worked strenuously in adapting the resources of his firm to the manufacture of munitions and particularly of heavy field artillery equipment, but his health suffered from the strain. For these services he received the Companionship of the Order of the British Empire.
His death took place suddenly at Cleveleys, on 11th July, 1921, at the age of fifty-two.
He became a Member of this institution in 1908.
