Records of 29 mill-sites have been found by VCH in Stroud parish[1]. Mills in adjoining parishes, such as Nailsworth, Woodchester and Brimscombe, are also included in the lists below.

Many of the mills were established for making cloth, typically fulling of woven wool cloth. By the late 1830s the larger mills had also brought the weaving process into the mill and some had installed power-looms. Many of the smaller mills turned to corn-milling, to saw-milling and wood-turning, or to the manufacture of flock and shoddy. Others specialized in dyeing,
