London and North Eastern Railway Constituent Companies

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) was formed out of a number of constituent railway companies at the grouping in 1923.

Constituent companies

The following made up the London and North Eastern Railway as a result of the Railways Act 1921 and came into force on the 1st January 1923:

  • Total Mileage of the constituent companies was 6,671.75 miles

Leased or worked railways Many of these "railways" existed only in name; there were included on the list at the time of the Railways Act in order to legally qualify each line's position
